Best known as the former bass player for Great Big Sea and Moxy Fruvous, he also founded the Toronto Songwriting School (2014). He has taught/teaches songwriting at Seneca College in their Independent Performing Songwriter program and created and directed The Cocksure Lads Movie for which he appeared on Dragons’ Den and took it to festivals from Whistler to Shanghai. In addition, he was invited to join the Toronto Music Advisory Council, convened by the City of Toronto to advise on improving Toronto’s music sector. Throughout it all, Murray has worked as a songwriter, musician, and music producer. He collaborated on three songs on the Fortunate Ones’ Juno-nominated album The Bliss, including his own song “Lay Me Down” which spent two weeks at #1 on the CBC Radio 2 Top 20. He performed in The Cocksure Lads live band, a twenty-year endeavor which inspired the feature film. He plays upright bass in The Lesters, a jazz trio with Tory Cassis and Jeff Ulster, and produced CD's for other artists in the past.

"The quintet’s vocalist and front man Steve Lamb is the real deal, inviting and inspiring listeners to explore their rich musical and lyrical heritage with a voice that is both homespun and heartfelt. Fans of the Clancy Brothers, the Dubliners, the Irish Rovers and the Kingston Trio will want to wrap their ears around this one."

"The amazing fiddle performances are a show highlight. There's a lot of talent and high energy in this group of musicians. The show was excellent, with a mix of old traditional Scottish and Irish Ballads and new songs, some written by Steve Lamb. Lamb's rich, low voice is a lot like Paddy Reilly, one of Ireland's most beloved and famous balladeers."
